Grenada E911 Communications Center: The Heart of Emergency Response

The Grenada E911 Communications Center plays a vital role in the safety and well-being of the community by serving as the critical link between individuals in need of assistance and the emergency personnel who respond to those needs. As the sole Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for all emergency and non-emergency calls in Grenada, MS, the center is a cornerstone of public safety.

Our team of dedicated professionals handles a range of calls, including:

  • Six 911 lines for emergency calls.

  • Five non-emergency lines for general assistance.  

  • Grenada Police Department Dispatch phone number is 662-226-1211

  • Grenada Sheriff's Office Dispatch phone number is 662-226-2721

  • There is no direct phone number for animal control other than the two dispatch numbers.

We provide comprehensive dispatch services for a variety of local emergency responders, including:

  • Grenada County Sheriff’s Office

  • Grenada Police Department

  • Grenada Fire Department

  • MedStat Ambulance Service

  • Elliott Volunteer Fire Department

  • Gore Springs Volunteer Fire Department

  • Holcomb Volunteer Fire Department

  • Geeslin Corner Volunteer Fire Department

  • Tie Plant Volunteer Fire Department

For incidents on highways or interstates, calls are promptly transferred to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) for further response.

The Grenada E911 Communications Center remains dedicated to ensuring timely and effective communication between the public and first responders, enhancing the safety and security of the entire community.

Eddie Merriman served Grenada E911 until his death in April 2013.  The Communications Room was dedicated in his memory and now called the

At the Grenada E911 Communications Center, we are a dedicated team of professional Telecommunicators committed to delivering the highest quality of service to both our citizens and visitors. Our mission is to combine cutting-edge technology, extensive training, and genuine compassion to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.

Daily Operations
Our daily operations are managed by two to three personnel per shift, each of whom is expertly cross-trained in Law Enforcement, Fire, EMS dispatching, and Call Taking. This cross-training ensures that our team is versatile and equipped to handle a wide range of emergencies and requests for assistance.

Technology and Systems
To efficiently manage and document information, we utilize a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system in conjunction with a high-band and digital trunked radio system. These tools help streamline communication between our team and emergency responders, ensuring fast and accurate responses to every situation.

Impressive Call Volume
On average, our Telecommunicators handle:

  • 6,000 telephone calls per month

  • Over 26,000 radio transmissions

  • More than 2,200 calls for service

The dedication of our team, combined with advanced technology, ensures that Grenada residents and visitors receive timely and effective emergency services, every day, 24/7.

How You Can Help During an Emergency

When calling 911 in Grenada County, every citizen can play an essential role in ensuring a fast and effective response by providing clear and concise information. When you dial 911, please be prepared to answer the following basic questions:

  1. Where is the emergency occurring?

  2. What is happening?

  3. How did it happen or how is the situation unfolding?

  4. Who is involved or affected?

  5. When did the incident occur?

  6. Depending on the situation, Are weapons involved?

Being quick, clear, and precise with your answers helps us provide the right response. Please understand that we may need to verify some of this information, especially your location. Road names can sound similar or differ only by suffix, such as “Somewhere Street” and “Somewhere Road,” and we may need to clarify which location the incident is at.

Important Reminder:

  • Cell Phone Safety: Please remove the battery from your cell phone if children are playing with it. If your child accidentally dials 911, please allow us to come out and check on you to ensure everything is okay—this is part of our protocol.
